Sunrise on l’Escalet beach – Ramatuelle

Since I’ve been living in the South of France, I usually do my outdoor photo shoots at the end of the day as the sun is setting. I get lovely soft light, thanks to that famous golden hour. At the height of summer, la Côte d’Azur – and especially around Saint-Tropez, Cannes and Nice – is overrun with tourists who come to enjoy the charms of the Mediterranean.
So I thought I’d try out a sunrise shot on a beach where the sun rises as soon as it crosses the horizon. L’Escalet beach in Ramatuelle was ideal for this. Deserted in the early morning.

A sublime natural mama-to-be

L. drove a long way so that we ended up on this little stretch of beach at around 6.30am in the middle of August. L’Escalet beach is also the starting point for a beautiful hike to Cap Taillat and Cap Lardier (where I usually like to do my pregnancy sessions). We were lucky enough to admire the sunrise together and enjoy the already warm but still bearable August temperatures.
I like to think of our sessions as little suspended moments, moments of connection with the baby. L. let herself get caught up in the game. She managed to let go quickly and enjoy the beautiful elements in front of us.

An underwater pregnancy photo session in Ramatuelle

We started with the land part. Then we put on our swimming costumes and got in the water. L. did a few dives before having to stop. The heat and fatigue don’t mix well with pregnancy, so we had to stop our underwater photo session fairly quickly, but I’m happy with the few images we managed to get.
For mums-to-be interested in this type of session, you really need to prepare yourself physically. Underwater is not as easy as it looks!
